🌈Let’s talk about the demonisation of medication in the ADHD community.😘
🧠I have seen an array of coaches who are coming across (whether they mean to or not) as a little “holier than thou” as they don’t take meds.
🧚🏻♀️Now, if you don’t know me, I started my worklife in Aromatherapy and Herbalism, I am a (person-centric behaviourist/humanist practicing) qualified teacher (L7) and a certified coach working with neurodivergent and traumatised brains.
⭐️My whole bag IS holistic!⭐️
💭Because if you’re not treating the WHOLE you’re missing the point.
🧠For many people, part of that whole is treating the brain chemistry through medication – and for many it is life changing!
📕In fact, recent research suggests that ADHD medication is not only safe to use longterm, it also prevents suicidal tendencies and self-harming behaviour (which are not just cutting etc. many of our impulsive behaviours are self-harming. E.g gambling, over eating, reckless driving etc.)
🫣Now if you ask me, ADHD meds aren’t going to compensate for a 💩 lifestyle, just like SSRIs (antidepressants) aren’t going to do the heavy lifting of therapeutic interventions…
❓But do they help?
⭐️YES.
❓Should you be ashamed of taking them?
⭐️NO.
❓Is it cheating, cos you could get up and have an ice bath at 3am and run 5 miles instead…?
⭐️NO!
🧐And on that last point…that’s a pretty privileged and ableist statement to throw at someone who is struggling with their condition…
😉And you know when I start saying words like “privileged” and “ableist”…we got a problem, cos I’m not into all that labelling stuff.
🧠🧚🏻♀️
ARE YOU OUT AND PROUD ABOUT BEING A “PILL POPPING ADHDER”?!
Leave me a 💊 in the comments for comraderie! 🤣😉
